Privacy

Plainly, so there are no surprises:

  • Page visits. Which pages are viewed, when, the referring site, and device and browser type. A first-party cookie gives your browser a random ID so repeat visits can be counted. No ad networks or third-party trackers run on this site.
  • Votes. Each vote is logged with that browser ID and a scrambled version of the network address, so spam and cheating can be found and undone. The same log is how the site shows you how your picks compare with the rankings; that view is only shown to your browser.
  • Approximate location and network. Your IP address is sent to an IP-lookup service (ipinfo.io) to get a city and the organization that owns the network, for example a university or company. The IP address itself is not stored.
  • Forms. If you submit a company or subscribe, the email you enter is linked to that browser's visit history on this site. Submitter emails are never shown publicly.
  • Photos. Founder photos appear only with the founder's permission. To remove a photo, email biz@babsonstartups.com and it's taken down the same day. Location and camera data are stripped from every image when it's uploaded.
  • Global Privacy Control. If your browser sends a GPC signal, visits are counted anonymously: no cookie, no network lookup, no profile. If you vote, the browser ID cookie is still set, because it's what limits votes per browser.

Visit and vote data is kept for about 13 months, then deleted automatically. A browser's profile, and any email linked to it, is deleted about 13 months after its last visit. To have your data removed, email biz@babsonstartups.com.
